@satchmoz holy moley, that's from 2010?! I'm curious what counted as "FB doing evil" then....
@ebel But it's hard to say with any accuracy as theyve been consistently doing evil for so long.
@rosjackson @ebel I feel like there is a fundamental mistake in how facebook issues related to the 2016 election are reported in general.
Terms of Service and other legal inoculations asside. This is the intent behind the platoform. This is what the platform was designed to do.
Culturally we are just picking entities and rolls we are uncomfortable with using the tool, without looking at the tool itself as potentially unethical or inherently problematic.
@ebel @satchmoz
this kinda stuff https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2010/04/facebook-timeline Facebook started investing heavy in it's platform as an ad platform as well, this is also the year it started rolling out updates that set user privacy to a new minimal setting as standard, it's also the first year the started expanding the tracking of people with (what is still) the current version of open graph getting you data from all over the place.
@bgcarlisle @ebel @satchmoz oh no. That's from when #Facebook was just for harvard and he was still in college. So probably 2003ish
@ebel Im guessing at the time it was the privacy uproar involving indirect ways any private profile info could still be accessed by anyone. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Facebook#Widening_exposure_of_member_information_2011%E2%80%9312
